Meals on Wheels

Peters Township Interact Club member, Natalie Barnicoat, has been using her time to volunteer at the local Meals on Wheels for the past few weeks. She was very kind to write an article for us about her experience:

"Due to concerns about the spread of the Coronavirus, Meals on Wheels at Crossroads in Peters Township was forced to close its kitchen.  Despite that, however, the community has donated many non-perishable food items as well as money to help support the mission. Twice a week, volunteers are making meals at home, which are then driven to the homes of 70 clients who have expressed an urgent need.  They also deliver the non-perishables, as well as toilet paper, soap, etc. No one is being charged for these deliveries at this time. The recipients are really grateful, as they are vulnerable to the disease due to age and health issues, are unable to get grocery stores and often are not able to cook hot meals for themselves.  Last week, Texas Roadhouse in Washington prepared 70 meals at a cost of $5 each which Meals on Wheels was able to pay for due to the generous donations from the community. Although we cannot go into any of the homes; we just leave the food and supplies at the doorstep, we are able to call out a greeting to the people and check in on them.  Many feel very isolated at this time.

If others would like to help our local Meals on Wheels, they can organize a canned food drive in their neighborhoods, or collect donations so that MOW can purchase specific items for their clients."
